From then on....
cant remember what happened from the last update till now. A month seemed so long, and we've done so much and yet so little.
Oh, Karneval.
It was quite interesting really, and a brilliant way to take away CNY blues. not that i had any, but this was the bestest CNY ever so far, no relatives you see once a year asking which sec sch you're from or awdward Q&As with people you dont even know or recognise. It was party party party all the way.
Started in Bochum city centre, where there was a preview of the much awaited parade in Cologne on Rosenmontag. Rather psyched up, and being CNY Day 1, dressed up, and went to dusseldorf for round two of Karneval. Broccoli man, clowns, pastors and nuns drinking screaming shouting and kissing (lol!) come on, it's all in Karneval fun. It was also here when we were getting bored, spotted a group of pig-men, posed for pictures, and bumped into a friend who took us partying all night. Here i took my first german schnapps, threw my first bottle on the floor, crushed glass beer bottles, made the first german polognaise, drank drank drank drank drank, danced danced danced danced danced, in public on the streets with music blasting everywhere. It was like a city-turned-disco.

This was a neverending parade from 1030 all the way to 430, no breaks in between, incessant screams and shouts for "strussien" and "kamella". It was showering chocs, flowers and kisses! Thought we were being smart by bringing no baggage with us, we couldnt hold the chocs and flowers by 1130 and by the sheer cuteness the cutey standing next to us decided to share one of her bags and pouring all our collections into the bag we actually filled 3/4 of it. It's a 50L bag i'm talking about here mind you. Saw "polizei"s and desperately wanting to take pictures, asked politely for one, and got shoved back into the exploding crowd. dang. it was a real policemen who'd give no shit, not even in the name of karneval. pui. other police encounters include 'trespassing' the on-going parade and being sent back to the other side of the road to not very nice looking people, besides policemen on horses that crap their asses off as the trotted by handsomely.... Couldnt help but laugh at the report in the news the next day which claimed how grand chingay was. not there, not even close.
Then it was CNY.
Reunion dinner night was.... like any other night seriously since we have dinner every other night together anyway. So in goodwill, we decided to help the appointed cook, who didnt seem to know his shit. We followed instructions, thinking it was going to be a surprise feast, as we cut up the broccoli, the carrots, potatoes.
"So where does this go in?"
"In the soup"
---cuts up more stuff, mushrooms, cabbage, blahblahblah---
"So where does this go in?"
"In the soup"
---looks at cook who's rolling minced meat into balls---
"So where does this go in?"
"In the soup"
and so we had not one, but two POTS of soup for reunion dinner, what seem like a feeble attempt to mimick the droolworthy steamboat only served to remind how much we were missing out. the only saving grace was the bak kwa we packed into our bags before we left home and consiously chucked at the back of the fridge to keep till then.
and so we decided to invite people to make our CNY even better and wrote out invitations to our dearest guests which included a good mix of colleagues, friends, flatmates, and anyone associated who decided to tag along anyway. the theme was 'red, red and more red', and it was wonderful to have people to alll the way out from head to toe, hair to shoes in red! totally kickass party it was. and then it was the feast, which included curry with baguette, leek with mushrooms, chap chai, chicken rice, sweet and sour fish, fried wantons, mango salad, jungle curry, fruit salad, fries and mashed potato, chips and pretzels. and what's a party without all that becks and gorbatschow and absolut and jacob's creek, the stupid games and lotsa pictures.....
http://sdsu.facebook.com/album.php?aid=610&l=6d371&id=227800018 ....here. And some bragging here, as first time cook, the food was actually really good, and i almost floated to the moon with all that compliments. Never have i the loafer spent the entire time from 10am to 7pm in the kitchen slaving away only to leave that place to fetch some music to sing along with while the food's prepared. For all you know, i really might develop a passion for cooking, and open a restaurant someday, sometime, somewhere. (no, new york actually if you even were wondering...oh how i miss that place so... just watched night in the museum and a spear shot thru what you might call my heart which sent some receptors to my brains and told it that it was stupid to have missed that one place and so we have to go back there again)
So in between Karneval and CNY party, it got quite boring. Lucky for my wonderfully danish flatmate (who speaks ENGLISCH!!!!!!), we got to do a little stuff here and there, dinner, coffee, night out, and hang out with her really international bunch of classmates who ALSO SPEAKS ENGLISH!!!!!! You should have seen how we were squealling away at each other the first time we met in our kitchen. Walked into the apartment, thought that that dude sitting in the kitchen was weird grunty german guy (who already moved out by the way, we were ELATED and cleaned up the entire house using TWO weekends, and now we love our place and would hold more parties and would totally blast the shit outta the next dirty pig who moves into the vacant room and we hope it'd just be us in this apartment anyways lol). oh so anyways i thought that dude was the german guy ( after i stayed for like 3 weeks i didnt see him at all, only the mess he leaves in the bathroom and the smell that lingers after him. it's not a SCent i'm talking about here lor. apparently after he vacated the room, authorities took three freaking days to clean it up. go figure). ok so anyways i thought he was the german guy and went straight into my room and decided that i should try and see if we could come up with a treaty thingy and then i went nearer the kitchen and actually heard alot of english!!!! went in, said hello and we both started squealing, not the dude, the girl who's my flatmate, the dude's her guy from SD! what coincidence. and later on we meet another dude from NYC. the place is just calling out for me to go back, that's what it is.

http://sdsu.facebook.com/album.php?aid=608&l=5f4a1&id=227800018so we have this matriculation thingy to settle tomorrow morning and i should really should go to bed. Hope all's well at home, heard about the tremors, hope it was just exciting and not too much. While i was in SD i was actually secretly hoping for an earthquake or a hurricane somewhere just for the experience. I'm glad i'm alive and this earth still exists but what's life without some fun and excitement and adrenalin rush now and then?
